Energy Employees Compensation Act

This Act relates to previous employees' exposure to toxic chemicals and radiation and their effect on health. Spouses and children of employees can file for compensation under certain circumstances. There is a write-up on the subject in 'News.' Please read it as it may apply to you and your family. Please post any updates or comments here.

U. S. Department of Labor Notification of Decision of the District Office awarded my family the Maximum amount under part B of the EEOICPA today in a claim seeking survivor benefits as my father died due to Urinary  Bladder Cancer as a result of his employment at Y-12.  My mother originally filed for benefits but she passed away prior to a decision being made on her claim.  My sisters and I re-filed claims seeking survivor benefits in August of this year and today the award was made.  Please, if you have previously been turned down, re-apply as Nancy suggests.  We did and the decision came quickly.  The NIOSH are adding to the Special Exposure Cohort new classes of employees at Y-12 and K-25 daily.  The criteria was updated in Bulletin 08-41 dated September 15, 2008 that established the parameters which allowed a positive recommended award.  Don't give up!
