Oak Ridge High School Class of 1966

Oak Ridge Public Schools Education Foundation was established in 2000. Since then it has raised over $800,000 which it has used to provide grants, usually around $3,000 to $4,000 to Oak Ridge teachers to enhance public education. This is an important resource for teachers when 53.7% of the students in Oak Ridge Schools have been deemed economically disadvantaged ( up from 23.3% in 2000).

In order to raise money the Foundation is going to publish a 75th Anniversary of Oak Ridge Schools Memorial Book. They wish to include stories from each class which emphasis the positive experiences we had as students at Oak Ridge Schools K-12 grades. I have agreed to serve as the Anchor Author for the Class of 1966. If you wish to participate Please submit your short story to me by May 30, 2017.

How did Oak Ridge Schools help make you the person you are today and how is that a good thing?

Did Oak Ridge Schools help form your life (educationally, morally , professionally intellectually etc in any way? Who and How?

Help describe the way it was so we can preserve this for future generations.

Events that were humorous, inspiring, or valuable lessons

Events that were First or Last in your life, our class or Oak Ridge life. (We were the first class to---, It was the first time I realized-)

Events that reflect student's social life, social development, artistic development, intellectual development or innovations.

Events that were going on in the world around us. In the cold war we evacuated the city, hid from bombs in the school cellars and wore dog tags. What were you doing the day JFK was shot.

Be sure to name and describe teachers, other students, places, atmosphere and your feelings. Lets try to bring the Oak Ridge School experience alive for all generations to come

I will take your stories and compile a 3 page synopsis of our class K-12 to submit to their editors for our entry.

Sad news we have recently lost three classmates: Kathy Babb, Susan Summers and Cheri Canterbury. I will try to get the obits on the site before long.
