Browning Ann Dickey Lyttle 2016  Family

Whenever asked to write something, I always think of our wonderful English teachers at ORHS - especially Catherine Ledgerwood -establish your subject, substantiate, expound, summarize, conclude...'   Mabel Turner was certainly a task master for excellence; Bill Lewis instilled humor with creativity.   We had amazing teachers.

Greatest Memories:  Growing up in Oak Ridge with sidewalks and bike rides:  ACAC, cheerleading, great teachers, great friends, water skiing all over the place.     The novel, 'Girls of Atomic City' certainly brought Oak Ridge to the forefront of the mainstream media in the last couple of years.   I participated in several book clubs in the last two years to validate the actuality of growing up in the Secret City.     My greatest challenge was trying not to talk too much !   Everyone has been so completely fascinated and it has been hard to maintain a degree of modesty about our 'utopia'.     Of course, we are all aware of the highs and lows of our unique experience, and it will forever be a vibrant discussion on many levels for many generations.   However, it is particularly timely with the impending visit of President Obama to Hiroshima.

So, for those in the future who might read our class of '66 annals from a historical perspective, the only regret I have is that girl students of Oak Ridge High School did not have the athletic opportunities that the boys enjoyed (we were pre-Title IX) and we had no official organized sports sponsored by the school system.   So I am particularly grateful for ACAC and Coach Bill Lewis who instilled a love of swimming in me that has lasted my entire life.

Greatest Accomplishment - My family!   My career (BA History, University of Florida) was spent in the Washington DC area, revolving around government training,  pre-and post-raising two incredible girls.  Now I also have two sons-in-law, one grandbaby, and tons of fun getting the family together.  We enjoy sports, music, museums, hiking, cooking, hanging out.

Greatest Hope - Health, peace and happiness to our Class of '66 and our future generations.

Yea Roll Wildcats Roll!

Lots of Love
