Oak Ridge is my hometown as I was born here to early Manhattan Project workers, Bob and Evelyn Ellingson. I attended Cedar Hill, Jefferson Junior High and ORHS> All Three schools had an excellent teachers, courses and students. Afavorite early school memory from Cedar Hill and 6th grade in Mrs. Christine Young's class was my 'winning' the painted timeline of world events the entire class had worked on for weeks. My part was the Sphinx of Egypt, and thei very long mural decorated the basememt staircase wall at our home on Outer Drive for many years.
After high school I went to Auburn and graduate4d with a degree in Business Administration. Worked a short time for Union Carbide before marrying my husband-Don Loftis on his return from Vietnam. Don decided to make a career of the Army and so began my adventures as a military wife-moving from post to post and coast to coast every year or two. Our daughter was born n Germany, and our son was born in Virginia. I was busy volunteering and leading wives' groups, entertaining and parenting. COL Loftis retired from the military in 1994, and we moved to Louisiana where I worked in the public library as I had worked on my Masters in Library Science in Arizona.
dOur 18th move was to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2000, and we still call it home. I volunteer in my sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma, and at the New Mexico Veterans Memorial-a lovely park in the city. Don and I love to travel in retirement and have enjoyed 49 states and 35 foreign countries-the last trip was to Cuba.
I am thankful for my family-now including 5 grandchildren, my health and many opportunities I have had and I treasure the many worderful times in the interewsting town of Oak Ridge.
