James Reese Fowler of Oak Ridge was found dead at the home of friends in Toronto, Canada, Thursday.
Mr. Fowler was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Fowler 116 Wendover Circle, He was 35.
Ruth Fowler said this morning that her son apparently died of an Overdose of medication. Â The family expects to learn further details when they arrive in Canada.
The Fowlers have another son Robert Bowling Fowler., a newspaper editor in Madisonville.
Jim Fowler had worked in the field of nuclear waste disposal at Science Applications, Inc., in Jackson Plaza until about a month ago. He lived here at 223 West Fairview Road.
He was born in Los Alamos, N.M., where his father, a physicist, was on the staff at Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory.
The Fowlers came to this area about 30 years ago, living in Norris for some 11 years before moving to their home on Wendover Circle in 1964.
Jim Fowler, a National Merit Scholar, was a 1966 graduate of Oak Ridge High School and was president of the Student Council there. Â He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University where he was named Phi Beta Kappa.
He had completed work toward his PhD. degree at Yale University except for his doctoral dissertation. Â He was working on the dissertation in Toronto.
Mr. Fowler was an avid reader and he liked jazz music.
J.L. Fowler is a professor of physics at University of Tennessee, and retired in 1978 as director of the physics division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Â Mrs Fowler is a part-time reporter for the Oak Ridger. Â Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
