McCowan Jane Overly 2016 Biography

I’m married to John Overly, UT System Architect and Capital Projects Manager, and we live in Knoxville, Tennessee.  We have two sons and three grandchildren.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee with a B.S. in Industrial Management while working for the three plants in Oak Ridge.  I retired two years ago from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory after 44 years of service at all three plants.  For the last 15 years of my profession, I worked in the International Safeguards Organization, which meant striving to keep nuclear materials out of other countries and the international travel required for this effort.  It was very interesting but challenging, and instilled a feeling of accomplishment for helping to make this world a better place.

Most of my biological family is deceased now…I’m the youngest of five children, and my parents and three brothers are deceased, leaving my 81-year-old sister and me.  It’s a sad and lonely feeling to lose those you love so dearly.

I wish all of the ORHS 1966 graduates good health and every happiness!
