Sherman, Robert L. 1-31-94
Robert Lee Sherman J., of Memphis, died earlier at a site in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Native of Oak Ridge, Mr. Sherman was the so of Robert Lee Sr. and Abbie Jane Sherman of 116 W. Newkirk Road.  He was a 1966 graduate of Oak Ridge High School and Attended the University of Tennessee.  A former Boy Scout, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Tor the past 20 years, he had worked as a retail manager for Kmart and Wal-Mart stores in several locations around the Southeast.  He had been residing in Memphis for the past year.  He enjoyed hiking, golf, bridge, reading and UT sports.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sherman is survived by two sons, Joseph Patrick Sherman and Robert Lee Sherman III, both of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister and her husband, Marianne S. and Andrew McCulloch of Solway community; an aunt, Sister Frances Sherman of San Francisco, Calif.; and by an uncle, Thomas Madden of Selina. His brother, William Francis Sherman, died in July 1978.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at St Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Chris Michelson officiating.  Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.  Robert L. Sherman III, Joseph P Sherman, Andrew Mc Culloch, Francis Muckenthaler, Thomas Madden and Ned Treat will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Robert A. Gilbert, John Griess, William Lenihan, John McLaghan, John Land , W.D. Shults and Harris Dunn.
The family will receive friends from 7r to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2 at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home.  A rosary will be said at 8:30 p.m.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to North Carolina Search and Rescue Dog Association, P. O. Box 956, Clyde N.C. 28721.
