Smith Rebecca (Becky_
Cancer Eye
Tribute by Pete Stimpson M.D.
I remember Becky Smith,
Her smile, her walk, her style.
It was all so casual in the 60's,
It was in the next decade she really came to trial.
Everyone in town knew Becky,
Everyone who knew her loved her.
It was always apparent she returned the affection.
I always seemed to feel the brother.
It was that brotherly affection,
That Becky really didn't need.
She had a wealth of friends,
But not the kind romance should breed.
It was later that Becky found a husband and a life,
That made her completely happy and content.
It was a painfully short time.
A time of joy that came and quickly went.
I have dealt with death for many years,
But Becky's seemed so strange.
She planned and organized her future,
As if it were merely a seasonal change.
Becky was always dependable, responsible.
A person of great inner beauty.
No one expected her to approach her death,
As just another Student Council duty.
I talked to Becky before she died.
She had no fear, no despair.
She was secure and confident,
A spirit of purpose I find so rare.
Most peopl's views of their friends,
Seems to be altered with the years.
Attractive first impressions,
Fall to disappointment in our peers.
Becky's beauty was slower to see,
But it grew with each passing day.
She was truly an angel on earth,
And I miss her more than I can say.
