Stapleton Steve 2016
After graduation attended Lambuth College for a year.  Moved to Maryland and attended Automation Institute of 18 months for a degree in Computer Programming and Systems Analysis. Convinced by Dave Sergeant to join the Navy on the 'buddy plan' I had my physical in Knoxville, TN. After a day of being chastised and made to feel totally worthless, Dave decides to tell the Navy of his heart murmur even though his dad, my Uncle Bill, told him that they would never catch it.  Needless to say we did not join the Navy that day!  Well now Dave is 4F and I am 1A with my physical.  Mom calls me to tell me I have a letter from the US Army and I decided not to open it and to join the US Air Force as they had the best computer systems!

I spent almost eight years in the Air Force.  When I was discharged, decided to go to Nursing School as I had a friend who was a Nurse Anesthetist.  I had spent a day with him at the hospital and I was hooked!  Worked two years in Surgery and Intensive care and applied to Anesthesia School in 1980.  I was very active in my profession  I was Tennessee Association President twice and served on board of directors for 20 plus years.  I served on Editorial Staff of CRNA News for several years and a CRNA Advisory Panel for Pharmacia for 5 years.  In 201f4, I decided it was time to retire and I did.  We bought a second home in Florida and now spend half the year there in Ft. Pierce: fishing, playing golf and riding my Harley!

Riding my 2009HD RoadKing has been a joy for me.  I have attended many rallies across the country including Daytona, Myrtle Beach and Sturgis.  I have a group of friends I ride with twice a year on Memorial Week.  We used to go to Washington for 'Ride to the Wall' but a few years ago two of my friends, who had lost sons in Iraq, decided we needed to go to cemetery here to honor their service.  Now after our ceremony at their gravesite we go on a week long ride to different locations.  Last year we went to the Texas Hill Country, Awesome!

Growing up in Oak Ridge gave all of us a special gift!  I know that most of us have appreciated that gift of the highest educational standards in the state.  Race relation never seemed to be a problem for us as it was in the surrounding communities.  We all went to school together at least from junior high on.  We were different, maybe because our families were all from somewhere else.  We became on in Oak Ridge and I know it made us all better!
