Rita Belle Wier Moulas, 67, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2014 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Her sisters and a niece were by her side.
Rita and her twin sister, Emma Wier Cooper, were born to Charley and Lucille Hatmaker Wier on March 13, 1947 in LaFollette, Tenn. They were quite the cute handful for many years, according to Dad and Mom.
Rita was preceded in death by her only daughter, Lucille Poland Smith Ellis; partner, Maxine Guerin; grandson, Gene Smith, Jr.; loving parents, Charley and Lucille Hatmaker Wier; brother, Robert Wier; sister, Marian Wier Miracle; brother, Sam (Sambo) Wier; nephew, Sammy Wier, Jr.; nephew, Charley Wier; and nephew, Jerry Wier.
Rita is survived by her granddaughter, Shanda Smith Granfrancesco; grandson, Charles Smith; two great-grandsons, Dominique and Mikkel Granfrancesco; two great-granddaughters, Jaylyn and Hope Smith; sister, Dianne Wier Redmon of Jacksboro, Tenn., twin sister Emma Wier Cooper, now of Clinton, Tenn., sister, Kathy Wier Mercier of Bristol, R.I.; brother, Bill Wier of Chattanooga, Tenn.; brother, Ronnie Wier of Puerto Rico; and 17 nieces and nephews. They all loved her dearly.
Rita and her family moved from Jacksboro, Tenn., in 1955 to Oak Ridge. She graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1964. She traveled all over the U.S., settling in California from the late 1960s to the late 1970s. She returned to Tennessee and eventually lived right next door and later with her twin sister Emma. They both loved the outdoors. Together they enjoyed boating and fishing, owning and riding motorcycles, working as auto mechanics and loving outdoor gardening and yard work. They both loved cats and dogs and they owned many over the years . Rita enjoyed painting houses also. Her one indoor hobby was leather tooling. She worked at Maxima in Oak Ridge before becoming disabled.
