 Oak Ridge High School Class of 1966 - Latest News 06-24-2014 - George Katz Passed Away June 19, 2014 George Richard Katz, 66, of Knoxville, formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away on June 19, 2014. George was born in Knoxville on Feb. 29, 1948. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School, Class of 1966, and was a former Fireman with the City of Oak Ridge Fire Department. George enjoyed other career pursuits and worked many years as a long haul truck driver. After earning his degree in nursing, George practiced as an ICU RN at East Tennessee Children's Hospital of Knoxville and eventually he supervised Home Health Care Facilities. Affectionately known by most as simply Pops, he was loved by many and will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by son, Richard Neil Katz, and by parents, Sidney and Ann Drower Katz. George is survived by son, Gordon Scot Katz, Oak Ridge; sister, Cinda Katz Orr and husband, Jeff, and their daughter, Alex of Kearney, Neb.; granddaughter, Jordan Katz Rowland and husband, Taylor, and their son, Brantley Neil Rowland, all of Smyrna, Tenn.; and also beloved friends, Ronnie and Julie Bradshaw of Knoxville. The family requests that memorials be in the form of donations to East Tennessee Children's Hospital, Attn: Development Dept, 2018 Clinch Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37916. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, at Weatherford Mortuary. An online guest book may be signed at weatherfordmortuary.com.  Return to Latest News |
