06-30-2014 - Jim Campbell dies, Carol Varnadore's husband and Emmett Walker's wife die
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Robert Aebersold  husband of Carol Varnadore

AEBERSOLD, Jr., Robert Robert 'Bob' Charles Aebersold, Jr., 64, was released from the bonds of earth to be welcomed into the arms of his heavenly Father on June 24 at Florida Hospital-Flagler in Palm Coast, Florida. Bob was born July 29, 1949 in Saltville, Virginia, to Robert Charles Aebersold, Sr. and Virginia Tilman Aebersold. He attended Saltville High School and graduated in 1967. After graduation Bob enrolled at Virginia Tech, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering and participated as an active member of the weightlifting team, eventually earning the honor of becoming the Southeastern Seaboard champion. Bob graduated in 1971. Upon graduation, Bob met a music teacher by the name of Carol Varnadore and the two married on March 31, 1972. The pair subsequently moved to the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. In the summer of 1974, Bob became the father of twin girls: Chanda Aebersold Bell and Christa Aebersold Pitts; three years later, in 1977, he welcomed his son, Robert Brandon Aebersold. Bob began his working career in 1972 at Simons Eastern Engineering as a mechanical engineer. Shortly thereafter, he transferred to Weston Solutions, Inc. (f.k.a. Roy F. Weston, Inc.) as a project manager over the waste management division. Eventually though, he found opportunity at P.R. Bradley and Associates in engineering sales, before finally opening his own engineering and fabrication firm specializing in waste management and landfill systems, Aebersold Technologies, Inc. (ATI). He retired in 2010 to become a permanent fixture as the 'HFO' at Creatively Classic Activities and Books, better known as The Elf on the Shelf, which was a title he proudly bestowed upon himself as the 'husband and father of the owners.' Bob's life centered around his faith and family. As a member of the United Methodist Church he served as a Sunday school teacher and was appointed to the Board of trustees. He also served on the board for the Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain Hospice-a cause close to his heart. However, what he enjoyed most was the opportunity to fellowship with and minister to those around him. Bob lived out his faith exhibiting unrivaled character and integrity-which he thought to be a true measure of a man; and at the church, he was most often found behind the scenes providing physical labor and technical 'know-how' whenever needed. As a father and grandfather, 'A-Daddy' stayed actively involved in the lives of his family. He never missed the opportunity to spend time with them. He loved family gatherings-especially the holidays-when all those he loved most were near. Eventually he moved to Palm Coast, Florida, just so the grandkids could all go boating, fishing and swimming with him. Bob is survived by his wife, Carol Varnadore Aebersold, as well as his daughter Chanda Aebersold Bell and her husband Murry Bell of Snellville, GA; his daughter Christa Aebersold Pitts of Atlanta, GA; his son Robert Brandon Aebersold and his wife Comer Ireland Aebersold of New York, NY; as well as his four grandchildren: Taylor Murry Bell, Kendyl Lynn Bell, Caroline Tate Aebersold and Catherine Ireland Aebersold. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Earl 'Ted' Varnadore of Oak Ridge, TN, and his sisters: Frances 'Fran' Jean Aebersold of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Dr. Anita L. Aebersold of Little Rock, AR as well as many nieces and nephews who loved 'Uncle Robert' like a father. He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert Charles Aebersold, Sr. and Virginia Tilman Aebersold. The family will receive friends on Sunday June 29, 2014 at H.M. Patterson & Son- Oglethorpe Hill Chapel from 6-8PM. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday at Peachtree Rd. United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Arlington memorial Park.

Jim Campbell died June 20

We all benefited from Jim's talent for organization starting in junior high at Jefferson  where he put together sock hops, a prom and got buses for the away games.  He later used his skills to organize gay pride events in San Francisco, San Jose and other cities around the country during which times he met and developed friendships with Liz Taylor, Cher, Tina Turner, Paul McCartney and other performers.

Jim along with Ted Cole spent untold hours setting up our class web site.  He helped maintain the Graphics through out the years along with other web site duties.

Jim became ill in Feb before our last reunion.  Although he had recovered he had a relapse at our reunion and could only stay 45 min.  He spent most of the week here in bed and upon return to San Jose spent most of the next few months in and out of the hospital.  He was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease which was causing scar tissue to build up in his lungs.  Chemo has dramatically improved his condition this past year but in early June after a check up Doctors called him and said they needed to put him in the hospital.  For some reason his condition suddenly became extremely bad in a very short period of time.

Jim Graduated from the University of Tennessee and went on to work for several major companies and later developed several businesses of his own which he later sold.  He had also developed several patents.

Jim traveled through out the world even to remote unheard of places like Turkistan etc.  He lived in New York, Virginia, Miami, New Orleans and finally settled in San Jose Ca.

A memorial service was held for Jim at the Food Bank where he volunteered for several years.

He leaves behind Randy, his life partner of 37 years and his sister Janie Campbell and numerous nieces and nephews besides all of his numerous friends who loved him and will miss his smile.
