Linda Mayes Evans

 

 

Linda Mayes Evans died peacefully at NHC Oak Ridge on Friday March 18, 2016, after a six year battle with cancer.

 

Born in Oak Ridge on Dec. 11, 1948, she was the third child of Howard Pearce and Flo Rogers Mayes.

 

Linda grew up in Oak Ridge and attended Oak Ridge schools, graduating from ORHS with the Class of 1966. She attended Tennessee Tech, Roane State and Pellissippi State pursuing her varied and diverse interests.

 

She was married to Ray Norman Evans, Jr., at St. Stephen’s in Oak Ridge on Sept. 28, 1968. They lived their first years together in Bamberg, Germany then lived in either Nashville or Oak Ridge for the next 44 years.

 

During their years in Nashville, Linda was primarily employed by HCA. While living in Oak Ridge she worked at all three DOE facilities at various times until retirement. Linda’s passions included her family, her gardens, Cocker Spaniels and reading, especially historical fictions related to the British Isles.

 

Linda was preceded in death by her parents.

 

She is survived by her husband, Ray; their children, Andy Evans and Becki Evans Delp (Adam); grandchildren, Brittany Evans(fiancé Trevor Bogard), Hunter Duncan, Serena and Trey Evans and Mason Petersen; step-grandson, Austin Delp; great-grandson Carter Bogard. She is also survived by her sister, Patsy (Paul) Bouvion; and brother, Phillip (Mary) Mayes, as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Services will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on Wednesday, March 23, at noon. A reception will follow in the undercroft of the church. Graveside service will follow that afternoon in the family plot at the Fredonia Cemetery in Overton County.

 

The family is very grateful for the extraordinary care given Linda, especially by Drs. Mike Thompson and Mackie McMahon and their colleagues. A special thanks to the wonderful staff on 4 west at MMC and the staff at NHC.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a contribution in Linda’s name to the American Cancer Society, the Methodist Medical Foundation or St. Stephen’s Church. An online guest book may be signed at weatherfordmortuary.com.
