Oak Ridge High School Class of 1966 - Latest News

06-29-2016 - Fisher Patricia Sulka 6-23-16

Fisher, Patricia - Parkinsons  6-23-16

Patricia Fisher Sulka of Cumming, Georgia faded away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on June 23, 2016.  She was 68.

Born in Oak Ridge, TN she graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School and moved to Atlanta, GA.  While in Atlanta working in accounting she reluctantly agreed to a blind date.  That date resulted in the introduction to her future husband, Larry Sulka.  Patricia spent several years in accounting when she received her calling to be a full time mother and raise three children: Brian, Jeffrey and Angela.  While a full time mother, she also believed it was part of her calling to give back to the community by volunteering her time with Habitat for Humanity, her church, community groups and as a caregiver for others in need.  As her youngest child neared middle school, Patricia jumped back into the workforce and began a career with the Cumming Post Office.  After retiring from the Post Office, Patricia continued to dedicate much of her personal time to her family and delighted in creating experiences for her grandchildren by planning special trips and memories.

In recent years her fight with Parkinson’s Disease robbed her of physical abilities.  Her strong faith in God gave her the strength to fight this relentless battle with grace, dignity, courage and a contagious optimism that never wavered.  Patricia was blessed with a strong support system, centered by a loving husband as her primary caregiver.  All of this allowed her to stay in her home until she peacefully passed in her sleep, surrounded by loved ones.

Patricia is preceded in death by her parents, George and Dorothy Fisher, and her younger brother, George Fisher, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Larry Sulka, her two sisters, Nancy Fisher and Betty Fisher, her children, Brian Sulka, Jeffrey Sulka and Angela Maher, as well as five grandchildren, Jacob Sulka, Dylan Sulka, Ethan Sulka, Emily Sulka, Aidan Maher, and a sixth grandchild due in September of this year.

Always patient and kind, Patricia left an indelible mark on everyone she touched and leaves behind a strong legacy.  Visitation will be held at McDonald Funeral Home on Sunday, June 26 from 4-8 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, June 27 at Christ The Redeemer Church of Dawsonville, GA at 10:30 am with interment to follow at Sawnee View Cemetery in Cumming, GA.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a contribution to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.  https://www.michaeljfox.org/
