He went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Idaho and was an esteemed member of the Phi Eta Sigma honor society. He came to Oak Ridge in June of 1943 and was the 529th employee of Clinton Engineer Works of Tennessee Eastman Corporation. He retired in 1984 as the Department Superintendent of the Assembly Division of the Y-12 Plant. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling all over the world.

He also enjoyed serving on the Board of the Clinch Valley Home Health Care, the Board of Senior Citizens, and the Board of the Children's Museum. He was an active volunteer docent at the American Museum of Science and Energy as well.

Per his wishes, Mr. Ellingson donated his body to Vanderbilt Medical School.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at First Christian Church of Oak Ridge with the Rev. Michael Fetty and the Rev. Jesse Bradshaw officiating.

The family requests that memorials in lieu of flowers be made to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund, 100 Gum Hollow Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
