NASHVILLE, Tenn. — .Muriel M. Culbert, 87, of Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at her home.
Muriel was born Sept. 27, 1922, in New York City, N.Y., to the late James and Marion Meeham Harris. Muriel was employed by New York Telephone Co. in April of 1940 as a messenger and rose to the position of manager in the accounting department before her retirement in April of 1978. After marrying her husband Henry, ten years ago, they split their time living between Oak Ridge and Whiting, New Jersey. She loved reading, attended St. Mary's Catholic Church, and enjoyed traveling. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Cullen, her brother, James Harris, and her sister, Marylyn Beatty.
Muriel is survived by her husband, Henry Culbert of Oak Ridge; three stepchildren, Patricia Natter and her husband, Patrick, of Birmingham, Ala., Lou Anne Lamar and her husband, Ted, of Greenville, Miss., and Hank Culbert and his wife, Sheila, of Harriman; three nieces, Margaret Byers of Dayton, N.J., Marion Zadrima of Bronx, N.Y., and Rachael Perez and her husband, Freddy, and their daughter, Dakota, of East Brunswick, N.J.; one nephew, Adam McCartney and his wife, Jennifer, of Matawan, N.J., seven step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
In keeping with her wishes, Muriel was cremated and a memorial service will be planned at a later date in Whiting, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be sent to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or by phone at 800-227-2345 or online at www.cancer.org. The family would also like to express special thanks to the pastor and members of Faith Bible Fellowship Church in Oak Ridge for their care and support during Muriel's illness.
Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
