KINGSTON, Tenn. — Carolyn Shockley Johnson, of Kingston, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2010.
She is survived by her best friend and soulmate of 27 years, Charles "Chuck" Johnson. She is the beloved daughter of Bill Shockley and the late Winzle Jones Shockley of Oak Ridge. She is the special "Nana" to Christian, Renee and Billy III Byrnes of Apex, N.C. She is also the sister of Andy (Carla) Shockley, and aunt of nieces Rachel and Jessica of Pleasanton, Calif. She is also the loving daughter-in-law to Madalyne Johnson of Clinton.
Survivors also include sister-in-law, Charlotte (Jerry) Bridges of Andersonville; nieces, Cheri Beth (Don) Floyd and sons of Papua, New Guinea, and Cynthia of Karns, and Madalyne (Jim) Robbins of Kingston; nephews, Tyler (Lora) of Charlotte, N.C., and Tim (Danni) of Oak Ridge.
She leaves behind a host of friends and co-workers from her 39 years of service at all three DOE facilities in Oak Ridge, a special lifelong friend, Brenda Markland Knoch of Oak Ridge, and many special neighbors in the Poplar Springs community.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Angel Tree, PO Box 50211, Knoxville, TN 37950. Donations should say "In honor of Carolyn Johnson." The Angel Tree is a special project of East Tennessee Corvette Club of which she was a longtime member.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Parkwest Hospital Oncology and CCU.
Receiving of friends will be Saturday, June 12, from noon to 2 p.m. with a celebration of Carolyn's life following in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, Clinton. Interment will be at the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
